●ストレスのある母音は日本語のアイウエオより顎を下に落として発音される

1)health
helthの[ヘ]から顎を少し落とすと[ハ]に近くなるので halth [ ハルス]のように聞こえます。ではpushed は日本人の耳にどう聞こえる可能性があるでしょうか。来週、教室で伺います。

● ストレスのない母音は耳に届かないし発音されないこともある

2)accession / addition の場合
この二つの単語は、第2シラブルにストレスがくるので、語頭の ”a”が耳に届かないことが多いですね。結果[セッション]や[ディッション]のように聞こえます。ディクテーションの時に思い出してね。

● 曖昧母音はスペルが "a, i, u. e, o"であってもそのスペルのようには発音されない。曖昧母音はスペルがどうであれ、私たちの耳には[ウ]に近く聞こえる

ところが今回の additionはどう聞こえましたか？

[ディッション]でもなく[ウディッション]でもなく、かなり[エディッション]に近い音に聴こえましたね。

[アディッション]と言ってくれれば分かるけど"edition"と聴こえたので、びっくり！意味不明でした。こんなこともあると覚えておきましょう。
